The Full Story: Gary Click & We the Church

Gary Click has served for thirty-five years in the gospel ministry and has been actively engaged in conservative politics for over a decade. He has been a youth pastor, senior pastor, Christian school activist, Ohio Republican State Central Committeeman, State Representative, advisor to US Senate Candidates, and an Ohio governor.  He leads the Ohio Christian Legislators Caucus and is the Vice Chair of the National Association of Christian Legislators for Ohio.

As of March 31, Pastor Click has handed the reigns of the Fremont Baptist Temple to his successor, Rick Ash,  and accepted the role of Pastor Emeritus so that he might further engage with other churches and civic organizations in highlighting the role that believers have in civil government.

Click addresses the issues primarily from a biblical perspective, complemented by historical accounts of our nation's distinctly Christian heritage. Practical applications in our modern era round out his mission to inform and inspire believers today.

Many of his colleagues in the Ohio House still choose to call him "Pastor" rather than "Representative." He chairs the Ohio Christian Legislators Caucus and is a member of the National Association of Christian Legislators, serving as their Vice Chair for Ohio.

Click is widely known as one of the most conservative members of the Ohio legislature and is frequently attacked by extremists on the left. Yet his colleagues have taken note of how he has advocated for controversial topics from a heart of compassion rather than hate while standing firm on the issues.

Click is nationally recognized for championing the SAFE Act and Save Women's Sports (House Bill 68) in Ohio and was recently invited to the White House for President Trump's signing of an executive order banning men from women's sports. At a Bring America Back to Life event in Cleveland, Ohio, Riley Gaines noted that Gary was one of the best legislators in the nation and definitely in Ohio.

Originally, Gary had intended to begin this ministry under the name Sacred Politics. "Politics" has a negative connotation, which causes many good people to shy away. Click remembers when a deacon once told him that Christians should never engage because "politics are evil."  Instantly, he recalled Edmond Burke's statement, "All that is necessary for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing." Yet, when Click was challenged by his community to run for elected office, he chose to practice what he was preaching, placed his name on the ballot, and won.

Yet, the passion to connect with the faith community persevered and grew even stronger. When preaching to a group of pastors in Sacremento, California, God led him to preach a message entitled "We the Church," a slight variation of the opening words to the United States Constitution, "We the People." These three words resonated. We are not attempting to bring politics into the church, but we do recognize the historic, persistent, and vital role the church has in shaping public policy. Hence, a new and improved name emerged for this ministry.

We the Church, is here to inform, inspire, and equip churches, pastors, and laymen to understand the biblical principles, historic impact, and practical means of civic engagement through preaching, teaching, and publishing. Please browse through our website to see how we may best serve you.
